Linda Claridge –
I’m a loyal customer. I am prepared to pay for quality. If a business keeps supplying the best quality product in a timely manner with a great follow up service then I’m hooked and happy. So, after wearing one brand of dry suit since 1994 it was with much trepidation that I decided to try a new brand of dry suit.
I had a few ‘musts’ – it had to be light to wear outside the water, I wasn’t interested in anything thick and heavy. I do a lot of cave diving which involves a certain amount of rugged walking to and from any kitting up area and didn’t need to add a heavy dry suit to this walk, and comfortable enough to wear for extended in and out of water times when working with students. But it also had to be tough enough to withstand the occasional crawl or slide through dry caves to the water. I also needed a Made to Measure option – seems my curves don’t match the length of my arms and legs……!
I had seen a couple of Bare suits around the caves and had heard good reports about them.
The Bare Aqua-Trek 1 Tech fitted a lot of my requirements and the endless questions I asked about the suit were answered quickly and professionally by the guys at Australian Underwater Products. My M2M request was easily fulfilled and the measurements were checked and any anomalies questioned. The suit fitted beautifully and the socks (I chose the soft sock and boot option) are really soft underfoot. The boots fit securely and have a great non slip sole.
The front low-profile plastic zipper doesn’t have a protective outer zip and I was concerned about grit and abrasion getting on it but 12 months down the track I can’t see any wear on the zip at all. BUT – get someone to check that it is completely closed prior to entering the water. User error (read ‘me’) has now taught me that you can feel a physical ‘click’ as the end of the zip seats into place. In fact, in 12 months of both cave and ocean diving, boat or shore dives the suit is still not showing any sign of wear. The seams are very low profile and not showing any sign of abrasion or rubbing which I’m super impressed with as this had been an area of weakness in my previous suits.
The suit did develop a very slow leak in the shoulder dump valve that has eluded all servicing so AUP and Bare were more than happy to replace the valve for me –that is the excellent back up service that we all crave and love.
Bare, you have a convert in me now. Lovin’ my Bare!
