Taking BARE to New Depths

DEEPEST DIVE RECORD BROKEN

On September 18, Ahmed Gabr, a 41 year old Egyptian special forces diver, broke the world record for the deepest SCUBA dive wearing a BARE Trilam Tech Dry suit.

332.35 METERS (1090 FEET) DEEP

Gabr’s record-breaking dive took place in the Red Sea off the coast of Dahab, Egypt. He reached a depth of 332.35 m (1,090 ft.,4.5 in.), surpassing the existing record by 46 feet. It took him only about 12 minutes to reach depth and nearly 15 hours to return safely to the surface

GABR CHOOSES TRILAM TECH DRY

Every aspect of the dive was carefully thought out including equipment. Ahmed Gabr choose BARE’s best-selling drysuit, the Trilam Tech Dry. “The choice of suit was critical to the success of the dive,” Gabr explains. “The Trilam has an excellent track record for reliability, from the integrity of its construction to the strength of its material. Yet it’s very, very comfortable. Fifteen hours is a long time to spend in a suit and I appreciated its design… especially in the last six hours.”

WHY RISK IT?

The question of “Why take the risk?” passes through the minds of many. In the days leading up to the dive, when asked why, Gabr explained that he hoped to prove humans can in fact survive under such extreme conditions. And he did just that by beating the record and returning to the surface with a smile on his face.

BARE WAS ESSENTIAL

BARE is proud of the part we’ve played in this incredible event. Because we are divers ourselves, our designs are based on real-life practical use. The attention to detail and craftsmanship we put into the design and construction really makes the difference. Ahmed could have chosen any suit to make this historic dive. We appreciate that he chose BARE.
